PaperTrail: my TaskPaper iOS client (out now!)

Thanks! Except you’ve got too many people interested. Full again!!! I’m also happy to wait for App Store release, seems like you are close.

my case: I use a taskPaper file as a MasterList to which I can link/open other TP doc… in the desktop app is quite easy… perhaps on iPad?

Too many people interested? Not a bad problem to have!

Have invited you by email :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

AFAIK PaperTrail can read/import OPML files, therefore reading OPML version of. bike files…
if it could also write OPML files it can become a, limited but very useful, iOS app even for Bike owners.
Think of it!

Could I nick one too please? Always good to keep an eye on the competition :joy:

(I reckon you’re 6 months ahead of me and far more feature complete)

Submitted 1.0 to App Store Review! :tada:

It’s the version below.

PaperTrail (260327.2020)

  • add: close button on Go To palette
  • change: rename “Home” to “View All” in Go To palette
  • change: Go To palette uses solid background instead of translucent material
  • fix: fold markers jumping after fold/unfold by cancelling debounced scroll restyle
  • fix: project names with trailing tags not matching when focusing
  • fix: layout coverage area expanded to prevent missing fold marker geometry
  • fix: projects with tags after the colon can now be opened from the filter panel
  • remove: redundant deferred fold indicator refresh on text change
  • remove: normalise various Unicode spaces to ASCII on file open and paste

Almost final website is at: https://www.gingerbeardman.com/apps/papertrail/

ps: I cleaned out some inactive testers from the TestFlight, those with zero or 1 sessions recorded, apologies if that is you.

Let us know when PaperTrail is live at the App Store!

Well, it’s been approved already! Whilst I was sleeping. I’m yet to set a release date.

I’m talking with Jesse about a couple of things but either way “soon”.

Congratulations, Matt! TaskPaper finally has a “proper” iOS baby. Fantastic work! :face_savoring_food:

Great progress and quality of life improvements over the last few weeks. i just realised a few features such as widgets have been removed but they’re still in the feature list on the website.

I need to upload the latest website content

@matt One style awkwardness and a question regarding pricing.

When I do a search on my iPhone (vertical/portrait) the Save button demands extra vertical space. I can see/understand why it takes extra space, but would be nicer if an icon could be used for Save instead.

On a pragmatic level, what will be the pricing on this app? I generally do not purchase subscriptions. Any advance info would be very helpful.

So far I’ve found the app very nice to use. A great complement to TaskPaper and helps me move away even more from OmniFocus and other options. Thanks so much for the work!

@mitchellm yes the “Save” word has always bugged me but I couldn’t find a symbol that satified both:

  • available in iOS 17+
  • obviously meaning “save”
  • sitting harmoniously with the other symbols

eg. the “down arrow into a box” save icon did not sit well in amongst the others.

Quite happy to take another look for the first post-launch update.

Feel free to suggest fitting symbols from SF Symbols app.

This app will be a one-time purchase, no subscriptions.

BTW, I pay for only two subscriptions myself:

  • ReadKit (RSS reader; iOS & macOS) expired in Feb
  • Infuse (video player; iOS)

My app building philosophy is same as Jessie: build an app until it is “done” and then give it smaller ongoing updates whilst I work on more apps. I don’t imagine I will ever try to wring as much as possible from one app. Plus, I have ADHD so it’s just not on the cards.

Given that PaperTrail can do pretty much all of what TaskPaper macOS can do, the normal pricing will be in that ballpark. But there will be a launch sale for all you lovely people. Exact price still TBC.

If you think it’s worth more, I’m happy to share my kofi link for donations.

Hmm … that’s a tricky one as I would have suggested “down arrow into box”. Maybe there’s not great solution here … I just have to get used to it.

Thank for info re: pricing!

Please send a screenshot of how Save looks for you using TestFlight feedback (long press the PaperTrail app icon)

done!
