I find in 306 if I set the app to full screen mode (green dot or Globe+F), the animations get extremely jittery, like the app is slowing down. I tested with animations and font scaling off on a default Bike theme, same result.
Anyone else seeing this?
Not here (macOS 26.6.2)
Here’s a video of the issue:
I cannot replicate this with a screen recorder. As soon as I record screen / connect external monitor, Bike behaves normally (on that screen; still shows same issue on laptop’s screen in a two-monitor setup). I should clarify that this is ONLY full-screen mode. If I blow up the window to take up the entire screen in windowed mode, performance is normal.
Other apps seem to behave normally in full screen mode for me.
Macbook Pro, M4 Max, 64 GB
Seems to be working well (animations smooth) for me in fullscreen mode. Can see if 305 also has the problem? Or in which release exactly this problem appears for you?
I tried a bunch of past versions (down to ~27x, which is where app starts crashing on Golden Gate), and all exhibit the same issue. Bike 1.x works fine, though.
So, I went to System Settings → Displays → Refresh Rate for Built-in Retina display, and I switched that from ProMotion to 60Hz, and the problem was gone. Switching back to ProMotion again, same issue returned. Maybe something to do with the way the app is rendered?
Great detective work, thanks. Can you tell me a bit more about your display setup? Just the MacBook Pro with built in display?
Actually, I seem to be able to reproduce problem here now. So I don’t think I need any more info. Thanks.
Yes, issue appears only with the inbuilt display. All other displays work fine (but I don’t own any other high refresh rate monitors to check).
Thanks for reporting this… what a mess to track down, but I think the problem is fixed in latest 307. At least it seems fixed on my computer. Let me know what you see.
Seems like it works now! Will keep an eye out if anything changes.
Another minor bump to improve the way that breadcrumbs are generated. Better handling for cases like:

What now?
When I paste a link, the cursor affinity makes it so that whatever I type next is included as part of the link text – eg. if you paste in https://www.google.com and then type “hello”, the “hello” is part of the link text. Curious if it’s possible to detect when the pasted content ends with a link and make the cursor affinity go after it, so that whatever you type next appears without the link formatting? (To me this feels like it’d be a big improvement any time I paste links in, but maybe it’s a matter of taste!)
I think that makes sense… maybe make it less specific to links though? What about after any paste we set the affinity to downstream. So it would work the same when pasting bold text, etc?
Good point, to me it intuitively makes sense to set the affinity to downstream in those cases too. Based on experience with TextEdit/gmail’s compose window/etc. I almost never want to continue the formatting from pasted text in whatever I type next.
I’ve got an outline with an image in it, and just tried copy-and-pasting the image from Bike into Finder and a few other apps. It looks like the image isn’t copied as an image.
Hi @jessegrosjean - is it possible to update the Bike Releases page with the 2.x version releases, or alternately to add a pinned post/wiki-type page to each of the app support sections (meaning, both WriteRoom and Bike) which lists all the release note per version? It would make it much easier to track all the changes of each app in one place. Thanks!
Thanks @Rob.
@Jesse - perhaps this page could be added to the bottom of the Bike main page as well? Right now it only shows a link to 1.x releases. This is such a great resource for those like myself who return to Bike development after an absence.
Soon, but it’s still in preview. I don’t want to start linking to it from the “official” page quite yet. Plus while they might be useful for a very dedicated user, there’s a lot of detail and churn in there, I imagine to much for most users.
Instead for Bike 1.x users I have created:
Would love for you (or anyone else) to take a quick look and try to put your frame of mind in Bike 1.x, and let me know how I could improve that what’s new page further.
