This should be quite noticeable when on battery at 60 FPS, less so at 120 FPS. WriteRoom’s drawing has always been very fast, but it’s drawing directly to textures on GPU and that requires different codepaths then standard cocoa and there was a bad interaction between NSScrollView frame scheduling and WriteRoom editor texture frame scheduling.

This looks great in Window, but in Fullscreen I noticed a new unpleasant choppyness. Could this be connected to the update here? M2 Air, 27.2., 60fps tested

I think there’s a crasher on startup on macOS 26, maybe 15 also. I’m not seeing it on macOS 27.

I think crash on startup is fixed in 417

The smooth scrolling works in windowed screen, but in fullscreen, the scrolling is a little, but very noticeable choppy. I tested some settings, heading numbers, sticky headings, etc – non of those changes it. What changes it indeed is heaving the settings panel open in before a fullscreen WR window. If you then scroll the WR fullscreen behind it, the scrolling is fluid again. Once you close the little settings window, it is choppy again, very curious.

Thanks for continuing to dig into this. I’m still trying to reliably reproduce it. Does theme seem to make a difference? What about spelling/grammar highlights?

Also, anyone else noticing any scrolling performance patterns? Good, bad. How’s it looking?

Full-screen scrolling good here on M2 Macbook Pro 16", and on minimum-specification Macbook Neo.

( Both running macOS 27.2 )

@bostonb I do think I might have reproduced your report a few times now. But inconsistently. Still digging!

It is indeed related to themes, sorry, I did test them yesterday and it seemed bad on everyone – but “System” is fine both on Light and Dark. I tested most other thing, grammar etc., this doesnt change it for me.

Please try 418. I think it should be better in many scrolling cases. At least it is on my computer, let me know how it is on yours.

Thank you, Jesse! It is solved for what my quick test on the same use cases as yesterday showed me.

Good and thanks for pointing it out. I use my computer on main power most of the time and that was masking the problem.

Bunch of small releases here, so just keeping them all in this thread. Mostly I’m going back and forth with Mac App Store review making tweaks and working in any small requests/bugs reported here that I can.
