Preventing projects from expanding in the sidebar

Hello,

I often find myself organizing items by dragging and dropping them into the sidebar. But suppose I have 5 projects, each with an additional 15+ subprojects inside them. I want to quickly drop things in the 5 top-level projects, but whenever I do, the project I drop to expands, making it harder to drop between the top-level projects.

Is there a way to prevent the projects from expanding? Maybe adding a delay to the hover so that projects only expand after a 1-2 second delay?

Thank you!

i use TaskPaper daily and i know what you mean.
yes, the move expands the projects. personally i dont mind it at all because i grab a bullet (node, project) and move it around in my document, not the sidebar directly.

I could suggest a different outliner, like Capacities or Bike Outliner and they won’t expand when projects dragged around. however those tools don’t have such sidebar as TaskPaper

I think I see what you mean…

This expand that you see is only happening when you drop a project ON an existing project. And it is expanding the existing project, not the dropped project?

There is an auto expand that happens after a few seconds, but I think that’s a separate issue. I think what you are seeing is happening only after you drop. It’s not caused by the auto expand behavior I think.

Does that all seem correct?

Sorry for the lack of clarification. It’s when an item (even if it’s a note/task) is dropped onto a project in the sidebar (like the gif demonstrates below). I want to prevent the project in the sidebar from expanding. Expanding after a delay would be useful, but I’d like to have the option of dropping without the expansion.
