macOS 27 won't support WriteRoom

Hi!

I love using WriteRoom, and I don’t want to have to search for another app

My macOS just alerted me to the fact that a future release won’t support WriteRoom. I guess some Rosetta/Intel stuff. Will you (please!) be able to upgrade WriteRoom so that it supports future macOS releases?

Sincerely,

Jonathan

I actually spent a good chunk of time last month trying to figure out WriteRoom 4 and what it might be. Generally my plan (may change) is. 1) Finish Bike 2.0 for Mac. 2) Begin Bike for iOS. 3) Bike for iOS will require a reliable sync system. I think I’ll use WriteRoom 4 to prototype/test that system since WriteRoom is a much simpler app then Bike.

So yes, I expect an 4.0 before macOS 27.

that means before the end of the year?

My predications are often wrong. So nothing can be certain. I’m relying on fact that WriteRoom is a pretty simple app. Well see.

This is great news, Jesse.

This is fantastic news. I’m an author who’s been using WriteRoom since 2006. I’ve tried absolutely every writing software every released and I’ve never left WriteRoom. I could write an entire ode to this app. I’m still on macos 15 because that’s the last version I knew you’d confirmed as compatible. I still miss image for background (which was lost at some upgrade I can’t recall), but I could definitely carry on. If we never get WR4 then I’ll likely keep this older machine to write with and buy a mac mini for everything else. I hope for WR4, however, as I don’t want to see this one of a kind application be relegated to history.

Thanks, as ever, and best of luck in all your endeavours.

Just want to add my voice to those excited about the prospect of Write Room 4 before MacOS stops running the Intel-based version. I’m an academic who has been using Write Room for almost 20 years, and I sing its praises to everyone who’s ever looked over at my laptop screen and asked “what is that?” It’s the only way I ever write a first draft of anything. I’ll eagerly support a new release.

(p.s. Just learned, upon poking around this website that you’re in Bangor, which my family and I just got back from visiting last week. I did some research on the history of the Bangor Public Library, and my daughter fell in love with the Rock & Art Shop downtown.)

Thank you for your work!

 Thanks!

Some of our favorite places. Our default weekend day for many years was walk to library. Get a treat at the Bagel shop, then cross the street to look around rock shop. Now one kid is off the college, other in high school, but we still do the loop on occasion.

tha AppStore says it is only an Intel app… that means that if I buy it now it wont work on m4 mac?

I believe it will work, it will just run in emulation mode. I would probably just wait for the new 4.0 preview releases to start showing up here though. Hopefully within the month.
