Mac: Where is Save As?

I’m often asked why Save As… is missing from my apps.

It isn’t gone, but it has been de-emphasized in favor of the new Auto Save + Versions system. This change isn’t specific to my apps—it’s part of the macOS platform.

If anyone has extra notes or corrections please let me know. In truth I do like the system … old way was lots of people lost data when apps crashed, that almost never happens now. But it is a big system and somewhat confusing in places.

Apple has made a few file management improvements that really ARE better but have confused the heck out of people used to the old way. Another one is in Finder: The old way is copy/paste or cut/paste. Apple’s improvement is: COPY, then once you have chosen the destination either PASTE or MOVE.

I believe it, but I’m not seeing in Tahoe. I copy file using context menu in finder. When I then open context menu in different Finder window I only see “Paste” option.

Ah, you have to hit the proverbial option button. Not sure if this was always the case.

Ha ha! It’s always easier to tell someone else to use option button then to realize you need to use it yourself!
