One thing I am finding is in building a large outline, sometimes I put in text in the line like [REVIST] at the head of it, to go back and make something better.
What I thought would be great is what if you had a hotkey to toggle marking the line for revision and changing the background color (configurable). Then you can have a “show all revisits” where everything expands enough to show them all so you can see what you need to rework easily.
Eventually I expect Bike 2 to get tags support, and I think tags would cover all the features you mention above. I don’t know if tags will be in Bike 2.0, but if not then I expect they will be in some 2.x point release.
Perfect! I was writing a very complicated part of the book in outline form and I could see where even other tags would be super useful as I formulate a nice template for outline usage in narrative planning.
What’s your timeline on the first Bike 2 drop?
My timelines are always wrong, but I’m working on it. I’d be pretty disappointed if it wasn’t out by spring. I expect it will be out a bit sooner, but I’ve also been disappointed before… so no promises
I totally get it, especially given this sounds like a complete rewrite from what I’ve read. That’s a huge task! And, given your attention to detail, prevalent through the capabilities of Bike, that certainly takes more time.
Are you going to have any beta testers in that time? I’d love to be able to provide feedback if that would help. I have quite a bit of coding experience that is of course all over the place. I only mention that in my ability to communicate back things I might find.
Yes, I post “previews” here in the forums from time to time. Previews vary from almost ready for release, to just a technology test with most of the app not functioning. There are already a couple of Bike 2 previews posted in these forums, but they are of the technology text variety. In the not too distant future I expect to be posting another one… more stylesheet work. I “think” in that one stylesheet will be close to final form, but other areas of the app will still not be implemented. Probably won’t be useable for real work.
