Feature Request: Option to Permanently Hide Row Markers for Non-Collapsed Rows

Hi Jesse,

First, I just want to say how much I love the Bike app — it’s incredibly fast, and the distraction-free experience is a dream!

There’s just one small issue I’ve encountered. I have the ‘Hide unloaded controls when typing’ option enabled, which gives me a beautifully clean writing environment. However, when I move my mouse, the little grey triangles appear at the beginning of each line, and I find them a bit distracting.

I understand these triangles are important for outlining, but they tend to pull my focus away from the text. Would it be possible to offer an option to hide them permanently for non-collapsed rows, even when the mouse moves? I’d happily pay for such a feature.

I realize hiding the triangle in collapsed rows might cause confusion, but for non-collapsed rows, I think it could enhance the user experience. If there’s a reason for them appearing when I move the mouse, I’d love to understand it better.

Thanks again for creating such a fantastic app!
Best,
Samat.

Thanks for your comments.

I won’t be adding an option for this to Bike 1.x, but I think it will eventually be possible in a future Bike 2.x version.

Generally I think it could be quite confusing if a user accidentally gets into this mode, handles are important for outlines, I want them shown. On the other hand Bike 2 will add stylesheets/themes which should allow for this type of thing if you modify the geeky looking theme file.

Timing… Bike 2 is well in progress, but at the moment I’m working on another aspect of some future version of Bike (workspace, sync) so Bike releases are jammed up a bit. Can’t say when 2.0 will be finished, but I expect it will be someday.
