Bike Thumbnail Crash

Hi,

I’m seeing fairly frequent crashes of BikeThumbnailExtension. Any ideas of the cause? (Crash reports attached).

Thanks for the crash reports. I hadn’t noticed, but I see some similar crashes … will try to debug.

Just looking more into this now.

Turned out I had one related crash from a while ago, but can’t seem to reproduce it. Crash reports maybe suggest the problem is related to changing input methods… is that something you do frequently?

All day long! I have Spanish/English keyboard layouts and switch several times every day.

I’ve been digging into this, but haven’t found the culprit. I thought since I had same crash log I would be able to reproduce the problem, but I can’t seem to at the moment.

What I have tried to do:

  1. Create a new test folder and fill it with many Bike documents. I just dragged in a few copied and then duplicated them a bunch of times.
  2. Open that folder and view it as icons, so you should see previews generated.
  3. Command-J to see view options for the folder

Now you are setup to make Bike’s thumbnailer run a bunch. I think anytime you change the “Icon Size” in the folders view options, then new thumbnails will be generated for visible files.

Now that you can make the thumbnail run, try experiments to see how to make it crash. I have tried changing my keyboard settings a bunch as thumbnails are regenerated, but no luck in causing crash. So I’m a bit lost as to what to try next.

What I have done is ported all that code into Bike 2.

I tried this experiment but I haven’t seen a crash yet. I will give another shot and report back if I’m successful.
