Attachments (suggestions wanted)

Hi,

I know file attachments (images, PDFs, etc) aren’t on the immediate roadmap, but I’d still really like to have them! I was just wondering whether anyone had a workaround. I’ve tried all sorts of things, but none have really done what I want.

  • “Deeplinks” to files in Finder (doesn’t seem to work).
  • Anybox (didn’t like it).
  • Links to Apple Notes or Apple Photos (doesn’t seem to work).

I just want a way to put a link to an image (or maybe PDF) in Bike, so that I can click it and see that image. A QuickLook view of a file in Finder would be fine, but I can’t seem to work out how to do it.

Any ideas?

Steve.

Have you added the folders (containing resources which you want to link to) to the Sandbox permission list in Bike Settings ?

For me it works to drag and image from the Desktop into Bike’s outline to create a link. Then I click to open it. You may have to change sandbox for the open part to work after you restart Bike.

Other apps such as Bear have “Copy Link” command, and you can paste that URL into Bike.

Unfortunately Apple Note’s doesn’t expose such a command, but they do actually have the underlying machinery in place. Anyone know if there is a standard way to get URL to open a note in Apple Notes?

Yes, it’s a convoluted process.

  1. Share note (collaborate)
  2. From drop-down menu, choose Invite with link (you have to invite yourself and type in your email)
  3. Pop-up then offers to copy link to note. It will end up in the Shared folder and conflate what’s really shared and what’s not, but that’s the current workaround.

That seems to work – thank you. Is there anything I can change in the link to make it open a QuickLook panel instead of immediately opening Preview?

(I have a feeling I’ve asked something like this before, in these forums. If so, apologies.)

Steve.

Sorry, I don’t think so, at least nothing simple that would be a good idea to change.

@StevenJackson You’d want to try Hookmarks for this.
