Bug: WriteRoom does not respond to font size settings anymore. Only keyboard-zooming changes font size. I tried a lot of different settings and restarts.
Oh yeah… I just mean I don’t think I’ll add any new features to WriteRoom. Just trying to get it out the door at this point. Then trying to get Bike 2 out the door. This house is full! ![]()
I think it’s working, but it can be a bit confusing now that individual windows can be customized…
So for example if you create 3 new windows, I think you’ll find that they all update when you change appearance and typography settings in WriteRoom > Settings.
But if you then focus one window and zoom in once. Then go back you’ll see that window stops responding when you change Font Size in Settings, but the other two windows do.
On the other hand, if you change Line Height in this situation all windows will update. I don’t know if this is the best design, but the idea is that if you customize a setting in a particular window, then that value is preserved in that window. On the other hand if the window just has the default value, then it’s updated when the defaults change…
Is that what you are seeing?
This could be, what I am seeing. It is not the most intuitive approach for me, especially as I dont get any feedback on this from the UI. Also, creating a “New Window” just creates a new tab currently, so this adds to the confusion. What use case did you think of regarding this feature of setting different styles per window?
I think in some respects is just expect in places. For example Safari, TextEdit, zoom in and it only effects that window.
Setting the dividing line between which settings are per window and which are not isn’t easy. But for example, theme. It can be nice to set different themes for windows that you keep open. Maybe use a different theme for notes window that you always have open.
I think I can improv the UI confusion via an alert. When a global setting is changed (but rejected by a particular window, I’ll show a sheet over that window explaining and giving option to reset the window to track defaults). I think that would clear up UI.
I’ve got an I hope better solution for this in latest release.
Now on first launch you’ll see a “Choose your writing room” panel that allows you to choose between DEC Terminal with keyboard sounds and the plain system theme without sounds.
When you Settings > General > Reset Settings you’ll also see that same panel again.
This was quite well done. I can imagine a user clicking through quickly and then wanting to go back (in either direction) but this should give most people the idea that they can change the settings to their preferences.
